Loose Gutters
Loose gutters are one of the signs of a damaged gutter but it is often easy to see and the repairs aren’t too difficult to fix. To find the damage all you’ll need to do is take a walk around your home. If you see sky between the gutter and the house you should look into getting it re-secured. The general rule is if you see a gap, it's loose. The last thing you can look for is while standing back look at your gutter and see if the front lip is showing. If you can see the inside of the gutter from the ground it's likely loose or installed improperly. Gutter spikes are essentially long nails that attach the gutters to the fascia board of your home. These nails are the old-school way of putting in gutters so your home may not even have these. If there are just a few spikes are loose you can easily fix this by hammering the nails back in without damaging the gutter. However, if there is a lot of nails loose all together that may be a sign of something different. For example, the fascia boards may be rotten or your gutters are holding water that causes the gutter to sag. If this is the case you would defiantly need to fix the issue before the gutter falls and cause additional damage. Water Damage To Fascia Board A fascia board is the trim board that the gutters are mounted onto. If water is able to get behind the gutter, it will wear down the board. Over time, enough water damage to the board will cause it to rot. Once the board begins to rot, it becomes soft and no longer supports the gutter system.
